Lộc Rừng, or “Nature’s Gift,” is a small Vietnamese coffee-processing operation led by Kate Nguyễn Mỹ Duyên and Leo Nguyễn Thanh Long. Working with a small permanent team and local pickers, the company maintains strict ripe-cherry harvesting standards and focuses on raising the quality of Vietnamese Arabica. Its farms sit at roughly 1,500 meters above sea level between two primary forests, creating stable temperatures, high humidity, and slow cherry maturation. Alongside strong washed and natural coffees, Lộc Rừng is especially recognized for experimental fermentation methods, including co-fermentation, carbonic maceration, and its in-house “Ferveo” process, which uses gentle gas fermentation in water to extend fermentation under controlled temperatures. Sustainability is central to its approach.
Vietnam is the world’s second-largest coffee producer and the leading source of Robusta, which makes up about 95% of its coffee production. The industry expanded rapidly after the Đổi Mới reforms of the 1980s, particularly in the Central Highlands, where production became focused on efficiency, consistency, and export volume. Although Vietnamese coffee has often been viewed primarily as an industrial commodity, a new generation of producers is challenging that perception. Through improved varieties, innovative processing, and better market access, they are repositioning Arabica, Robusta, and Liberica as distinctive, carefully produced coffees.
